Tekion, Inc. (Tekion), a North American company with operations in both the United States and Canada, is changing this dream into a reality. By integrating advanced battery technology with a unique micro fuel cell technology, Tekion is creating a new “personal power source”, known as a Formira™ Power Pack, that will be capable of fitting inside your mobile device. With a simple, safe fuel cartridge, which snaps in and out in one motion, you will be able to stay connected for as long as you need it.

As portable electronic devices have miniaturized and at the same time increased in functionality (who would have ever imagined a camera in a mobile phone?), battery capacity is becoming the show stopper. For example, the implantation of a television in your mobile phone is creating a need for a larger capacity energy carrier than those that currently exist with today’s advanced battery technology. Micro fuel cells, particularly the ones utilizing a liquid fuel, are becoming the design alternative.

Tekion’s Formira™ fuel cell technology combined with an advanced battery technology, such as lithium ion, in a “hybrid configuration” is a practical solution for this energy carrier problem. By combining these advanced power systems, we are able to take advantage of the strengths of each technology and integrate them into new portable electronic devices, which our customers will launch in the first quarter of 2008.
